At the Congregational Church of Weston we have a long tradition of living out our faith by helping and supporting our neighbors in need, locally, nationally and internationally. Known among many as the small church with the big heart, we aim to support some organizations through long-term partnerships and, at the same time, to be responsive to particular or emergency needs that arise.
Individual Responsibility
At CCW we take seriously the call of Christians to care for our neighbors near and far and, beyond the church’s outreach efforts, we are encouraged to find our own individual ways to serve. How seriously we take this responsibility can be seen by the fact that, at the last accounting, members were giving time or money to over 90 different organizations! We invite all to join us in our efforts to serve.
Hands-on at CCW
Partnerships with local groups for hands-on service include 30+ years of providing and serving food at the Bristol Lodge soup kitchen in Waltham. We volunteer with Habitat for Humanity on their building sites. We also work in Waltham with WATCH Community Development Corporation. Overseas, two of our members are working with a university in rural Uganda to train local science teachers.
Financial Support at CCW
CCW has a tradition of providing generous financial support to non-profit organizations working respectively on health, housing, education and the environment. Local groups we support include METCO, national groups include One Great Hour of Sharing and Habitat for Humanity and international groups include the SEED Institute in Uganda, Syrian American Medical Services and Kids for Peace Global. For in-kind gifts, we have, for 40 years, given gifts at Christmas time to City Mission Society in Boston, of household goods, toys and coats. We also organize an annual food drive, called Feed My Sheep, for the Weston Food Pantry.
